ルネー・スタッブスからのメール

２０００年の全豪オープン女子ダブルスと混合ダブルスに優勝したルネー・スタッブスから、メールが届きました。ルネー・スタッブスはジュニア時代、ビンスのトレーニングを受けていました。

ビンス・バークレーコーチについて 私はビンスの選手の才能を見抜く力やテニスへの愛情なしでは、プロテニス選手としての自分の可能性に気がつくことは決してなかったと思います。彼は私が本当に小さい頃から私の才能を見抜き、テニスのストロークを教えてくれただけでなくテニス選手になるための厳しい練習の意味、そして自分の信念を持つことを教えてくれました。 今年の全豪オープンでビンスに偶然出くわし、アドバイスをもらいました。ジュニア時代にたくさんのトーナメントに連れて行ってくれたり、短距離の走り方を教えてくれたり、朝早く一緒に練習してくれたりしたことなどが、今になって良い結果として現れたと思います。 ビンスは私にテニスを愛することを教えてくれました。そしてそれは偉大な選手になるためには、とても大事なことでした。彼はすばらしい指導者であり、何人ものオーストラリアの優秀な選手たちを指導したことをみればよくわかります。私はジュニア時代、彼に指導を受けられたことに大変感謝しています。そして私がビンスに習っていた時のように、今ビンスの指導をうけているジュニアがテニスを愛するようになってくれることを望んでいます。 ルネー・スタッブス 　 ＜ 原　文 ＞ I am writing this letter on behalf of Vince Barclay. I would like to state that without Vince's vision, drive and love for the game of tennis, I would never have realized my potential as a tennis professional. He saw my potential at a very young age and taught me not only my strokes but how to work hard and to believe that I could be a great player. At the Australian Open this year I bumped into him and got a few words of advice, I guess it paid off , along with the years of early morning practices, running sprints and traveling to those country towns to play tournaments. Vince taught me how to love the game which is such an important part of becoming a good player, he is a great teacher and it is only testament that he has had such and effect on some of the best players in the country. I thank him for those years I spent under his tutelage and hope that some other kid gets to enjoy tennis the way I did when I was learning the game. Sincerely, Rennae Stubbs
